Colorism is the preferential treatment of people with lighter skin by others of the same or different race and the prejudicial treatment of people with darker skin by those of the same or different race. Colorism mostly affects Black and Hispanic people of lighter skin tones. Almost every culture is guilty of perceiving individuals in a certain light because of stereotypes.
