Being half Filipino, ( I have found that) colorism is very prominent in the Filipino culture

Mackenzie Childs, 20, identifies as Filipino and Black.This college student from University of Los Angeles has a different perspective, coming from two minority races.

“Being half Filipino, (I have found that) colorism is very prominent in the Filipino culture,” she said. "I think that other races understand that there is colorism, but I do not think that they understand where this desire to be lighter comes from and why they do not want to be dark.”
